Metallurgy

Metallurgy has long been a leading industry  in the Chelyabinsk region. Currently, there are more than 50 large and medium-sized enterprises operating in this sphere, including full-cycle plants, i.e. Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works or Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant,  and non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises, i.e. the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant. Kyshtym copper-electrolytic plant, Karabashmed.

Advantage

Leading industry
Metallurgy and the production of metal products account for 60% in the Chelyabinsk region manufacturing industries volume.
1/4 steel in Russia
A quarter of the steel and rolled products and almost 14 percent of pipes and ferroalloys produced in Russia come from Chelyabinsk and the Southern Urals.
45% of exports
45% of the products of metallurgical enterprises are exported.
High-capacity infrastructure
Chelyabinsk ferrous metallurgy produces nine times more than that of Perm, and 2.5 times more than that of Sverdlovsk region. The industry employs about 150 thousand people. In 2021, South Ural metallurgists increased production by 108.7% compared to 2020. The increase in production was due to an increase in the production of steel pipes (129.0%), non-alloy steel (111.8%), finished rolled products (111%), alloy steel (109.1%), cast iron (106.1%).
